Sprint PCS Extends The Night

Bells will be ringing and cash registers will be humming this holiday season, but Sprint PCS is doing everything in its power to keep its customers from switching. The latest: The carrier has made the night a little longer by extending its unlimited night time calling offer by two hours.

The special offer, available to new and existing subscribers, gives PCS customers the option to start their unlimited evening calling plan at 7 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. The add-on option will run customers an additional $5 a month. For example, customers subscribing to a $45 a month plan that provides 500 anytime minutes and unlimited weekends and nights (starting at 9 p.m.) can upgrade to the 7 p.m. night time start for $5 more and pay $50 a month for service.

"We are always working to be competitive in the market," Sprint PCS spokesman Dan Wilinsky tells news@2. "As we are entering the holiday season, we want to make sure our offers match the competition."

T-Mobile USA recently unveiled a promotion that extends the weekend by another day, with its unlimited weekend minutes starting at 12:01 a.m. on Friday instead of Saturday.

In addition to longer nights, Sprint PCS also is offering discounts for family-plan subscribers. The move follows similar rate cuts by rivals T-Mobile, Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless Inc.

The Sprint PCS promotions are slated to run until Jan. 3, 2004.

Customer retention is an important part of Sprint PCS' business, according to Wilinsky. "Just as Wendy's offers Biggie Size, we Right Size (customers') plans," he says. The carrier communicates regularly, especially with high-value customers, to make sure they are on the plan that best suits their calling needs, Wilinsky says.

The LNP deadline goes into effect Nov. 24, and it is likely more promotional offers will be rolled out by carriers to keep customers from exercising their new-found right to take their number with them when they switch carriers.
