Sprint PCS Vision subscribers can now view webcam footage on
their handsets, the carrier announced Monday.
EarthCam Mobile, a new application available on select Sprint
phones, allows users to broadcast and the share live images from their
personal PC-mounted webcams onto their phones. Customers can also
view images from webcams around the world, including traffic and the
weather webcams, and can search content provided by EarthCam
Mobile.
The wireless Java application has an online companion site and is
available to Vision subscribers for $5 a month.
“It is our belief that camera phones will increasingly become
the next generation of webcam,” said Brian Cury, founder and the
chief executive officer of EarthCam. “With camera-phone sales in
the USA expected to double to 12 million units this year, EarthCam
Mobile is dedicated to providing compelling content and the applications for this exciting mobile webcam market.”
“EarthCam Mobile will give Sprint PCS Vision customers the
ability to stay informed on the go,” said Jeff Hallock, Sprint
vice president of consumer marketing. “Whether they need to
check for upcoming road construction or view the beach at their
next vacation spot, this webcam application will give our
customers easy access to webcam views around the world while on
the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network.”
